Learning to grow

This year, I really wanted to take some time to feel connected with my flowers, and in turn learn to grow from seed.

Last year, I started to experiment with growing some of my first ever cut flowers…

I managed to grow sunflowers, nigella, candytuft, marigolds, cosmos, borage, cornflowers and a few more, all from a tiny flat garden. This was my initial learning experiment, and I can’t believe how much I loved it! Watching my seedlings grow and develop over the weeks and months, until finally I could cut and use them in my arrangements.

This year, having moved to a bigger space with a slighter larger garden, I really hope to grow much more for my own little cutting patch.

The Winter Months

The last few months have been filled with preparations, from buying seeds to planning how to best structure my little cutting garden.

This patch will allow me to better understand and appreciate the beautiful flowers I use daily, and these will be readily on hand to add to any of my arrangements.

Plus, I’ll be able to dry out any surplus for over winter next year.

Flowers from the farm

I have also recently joined as a member of Flowers From The Farm - they champion British flowers and their growers.

By joining, I’ve opened up a whole new hub of resources, support and help to get started growing.

They also offer a digital map to find a grower near you. So if anyone from further afield than Manchester wants to take a look, their interactive map will quickly help to decipher a grower close to them.

Seeds at the ready… Spring we’re Waiting for you!
