Floraltography at Bath Flower School

What a lovelyyy whirlwind visit to Bath!

I’d never been down there before, so I drove the day before my workshop and spent a lovely little night in an Airbnb before heading to Bath Flower School in the morning for a photography masterclass. Such a lovely city, and I really enjoyed wandering through the old streets, past some amazing buildings, and via the Botanical Gardens.

Here’s a few of the highlights of my 24 hours…

My Portuguese low bowl arrangement

Glorious ranunculus stealing centre stage as per usual

The workshop was split into two parts - in the morning we were tasked with creating a 3d bowl arrangement, and in the afternoon Photographer Emma from Heart Full of Tea came to help us photograph it at its very best.

Emma was super helpful in explaining styles of photography, camera operation basics, general composition, lighting and much more. The challenges and activities she set us really set me at ease with using my camera properly, and she helped me to take photos I was extremely happy with.

My favourite image of the afternoon is showcased here, where the shadows and lighting really played a massive part in highlighting the various textures of the piece.

I’ve felt like photography skills were something I was lacking, and put it as a 2021 goal of mine to try and improve, so fingers crossed it’s working!

Final thoughts…

Bath Flower School was utterly lovely!

I really liked the range of flowers available to choose from, and Verity & Saffy were both so kind and friendly. Once again, the other women who attended the workshop as fellow florists were amazingly talented and so helpful with sharing their knowledge, plus a lovely network of floristry friends I’ve spoken with since.

But for me, the wisdom from Emma who was from Heart Full of Tea, was the icing on the cake. She was so passionate and supportive in really getting the best from us all, and you can visit her website here for some more visuals of her photography style. If you ever get the chance to work with Emma - I would thoroughly recommend it!

Speak to you soon!
